I sanded it lightly to rough up the surface and painted it with one coat of Gesso. The painting was much quicker this way and you don't need as many coats to get what you are looking for. I love this new way that I just learned by reading a few altered board book websites! Possibly a new thing to try as well, one day!

I use a black construction paper to cover the back of my playing card and write the details using a white Milky Pen! It works great!

I left this card bare naked (NO gloss, or sealer) so it could be as natural as possible for Earth Day!Juliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04402220963886597754noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-742394603488245009.post-56408459404159473482009-04-15T19:53:00.000-07:002009-04-15T20:00:23.000-07:00<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FYQjNb28EwU/SeaeHa0HjzI/AAAAAAAAETc/JSN95BAuUzU/s400/DSCN0004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325117459706384178" />
GALAXY STRAND made by Julie on 4-14-09

Background: Enamel shimmer
Circles: Acrylics
Top coat: High Gloss VarnishJuliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04402220963886597754noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-742394603488245009.post-77872114332047503862009-04-12T21:18:00.000-07:002009-04-12T21:24:31.745-07:00<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FYQjNb28EwU/SeK9ZluaF-I/AAAAAAAAESc/Q1zgy5BuuuU/s400/DSCN0064.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324025956826486754" />
Palm Beach Paradise, by Julie on 4-12-09

Painted in acrylics, with newspaper words added and coated with several layers of sexy high gloss varnish.

Live and learn...I wish I would have separated the two words Palm and Beach! A modest beginning...but I have to wait 3 hours drying time with this particular paint...semi-permanent enamel shimmers!!! They were just laying around the house for years, and I decided to open and try...they are very shimmery!!! I have a high gloss coat when I get them finished as well...it should be interesting with all the shimmer and shine! Others of you are into the idea of trading...maybe we could come up with a theme, and everyone could make something of that theme (enough for everyone who wants to do the trade), and we would end up with one card from each person of the same theme! Just like on the ATC trading card swaps out there. What do you think???Juliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04402220963886597754noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-742394603488245009.post-85194305198097176012009-02-10T14:27:00.000-08:002009-02-10T14:38:13.174-08:00<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FYQjNb28EwU/SZIAoet_haI/AAAAAAAAD0A/Y5N6ZoVBwig/s200/dscn7328+(2).jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5301300406809232802" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FYQjNb28EwU/SZIAWkuJiDI/AAAAAAAADz4/-FocqzQa4Mk/s200/dscn7327+(2).jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5301300099182856242" />
Fantasy plant... made by Julie on 2-10-09 (right after walking in from work...a stress reducing activity)! Made by Julie on 7/20/08

I have never made a quilt before. I got a hair-brained idea to try a paper one. It turned out kind of cutely, but with obvious errors. Amazingly it took the most time of any of my other ATC's. I made a pattern (below), and cut out one of my rectangles to cut from all the different colors.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_FYQjNb28EwU/SINpJY5B2oI/AAAAAAAAB4c/VYCYPFTvXB8/s400/DSCN5667.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5225135602701294210" />
Then I cut each rectangle into 4 parts that had to be mixed and matched. Talk about trouble...trying to keep them all lying on the paper without getting all jumbled up prior to gluing. After they were all glued in place and positioned as best they could be, I punched two tiny holes in each corner (with the needle) where I wanted to do a tie, and brought the string up through to the front of the card and tied the small knots. I can't think of anything else to do to make this look any more quilt-like, so I will consider it completed.
I had planned to make a series of quilt cards, but rather than it inspiring me, it has made me realize that quilting will never be for me...no matter how small.Juliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04402220963886597754noreply@blogger.com7
